Professor Andy Hor joined the University of Hong Kong in 2015 as Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), Chair Professor of Metallic Chemistry and Materials and Director of the Knowledge Exchange Office. He oversees i-Dendron (HKU’s innovation and entrepreneurship centre), the HKU-Zhejiang Institute of Research and Innovation (ZIRI) and the HKU-Zhongshan Incubation Platform (Guangdong). He chairs the University Research Committee and the Policy Board of Postgraduate Education, and he is a member of the Board of Versitech Ltd (HKU’s commercial arm). He is a member of the Entrepreneurship Centre Advisory Group of the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Co Ltd, Specialist of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, and Board Member of the Singapore International School.
 

Born and raised in Hong Kong and a naturalized Singaporean, Professor Hor graduated from Imperial College (London) (B.Sc.(Hon)), Oxford University (D.Phil.), with D.Sc. (London), specializing in organometallic chemistry, molecular materials and catalysis. After a postdoctoral stint at Yale University, he started his academic career at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He was among the inaugural batch of Fellows of the Teaching Academy of NUS, and the pioneering group of the Special Science Programme and Scholars Programme of NUS. He was Head of Chemistry for about a decade, Vice Dean (Academic) of Science and Senior Advisory committee member of the NUS Graduate School. He was Concurrent Professor of Fudan University and Senior Fellow of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). His fellowships include Humboldt (Muenchen & Muenster), Commonwealth (Liverpool), ASAIHL (HKU & CUHK), Jackson Memorial (Griffith), Anthony Mason (New South Wales), Wilsmour (Melbourne), Francis Lion Memorial (Sydney) and JSPS (Tokyo & Hokkaido), and he has been a visiting scientist at CNRS (Strasbourg), Nagoya, UC Santa Barbara, etc. He was among the earlier recipients of the National Young Scientist and Engineer Award (Singapore), Outstanding Educator Award and numerous NUS teaching and research awards as well as the ASEAN (Science) Achievement award.
 

In 2010, Professor Hor took up full-time secondment as the Executive Director of the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) of A*STAR of Singapore. The mission of A*STAR is to create and capture economic value through translational science and innovative technologies. He was the Founding Chair of the Young Scientist Award in Singapore, Board Member of the Singapore Science Centre, Chair of the National Advisory Committee of Hazardous Substances and Toxic Waste, Chair of the National Working Group in Nanotechnology, President of the Jury of the Singapore L’Oréal Women in Science Award, Member of the National Science Award panel, and also actively participated in various evaluation committees of the National Research Foundation under the Prime Minister’s Office.
 

Professor Hor is Fellow of the Singapore National Academy of Science (SNAS), the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) (RSC), and the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC), and former President of the Federation of the Asian Chemical Societies (FACS) and of SNIC. He chairs the Research Leaders group of the Universitas 21 alliance. He has published ~435 international papers (by October 2018) with >1,000 annual citations in recent years, filed patents in such areas as nanostructures and battery materials, and delivered numerous plenary, keynote and invited lectures at various international, regional and local meetings. He chaired the 15th Asian Chemical Congress (ACC-15) in 2013, 41st International Coordination Chemistry Conference (ICCC-41) in 2014, Golden Jubilee Chemistry Conference in Singapore in 2015, and numerous others. He is on the international/advisory board of Chemistry - An Asian Journal (VCH-Wiley), Dalton Transactions (RSC), Inorganic Chemistry Frontiers (RSC) and Inorganica Chimica Acta (Elsevier), and he is Associate Editor of the Australian Journal of Chemistry (CSIRO) and Editor of the Journal of Molecular and Engineering Materials (WS). He also served on the International Advisory Committee of the Strategic Basic Research Program of Japan Science and Technology Agency in 2015.

His background is rooted in commercial real estate leasing and management, residential sales and product development, and site acquisition/valuation for a broad variety of Swire projects in Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Ir Dr. Derrick Pang, JP

Ir Dr. Pang, aged 43, graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in the United States in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree and obtained a Master of Engineering degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States in 1998 and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007. He also obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2014. Ir Dr. Pang is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the United Kingdom and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of California, United States. He has over 18 years of geotechnical design and construction experience in the United States and Hong Kong. He has been appointed as a non-official member of the Land and Development Advisory Committee since July 2015 and has served as a non-official member of the Construction Industry Council since February 2017. Ir Dr. Pang was appointed Justice of the Peace by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in June 2017. He was also a non-official member of the Task Force and Land Supply from September 2017 to February 2019.
 

Ir Dr. Pang joined the Group in 2001 and holds directorships in certain subsidiaries of the Company. He has been appointed as Executive Director of the Company since April 2010 and acted as the Deputy Chairman of the Company from April 2010 to March 2017. Ir Dr. Pang has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Company since April 2017 and acted as the Chief Operating Officer of the Company from April 2017 to January 2019. He is also the Chairman of the Management Committee and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board. He is the brother of Mr. Pang Yat Ting, Dominic, the Chairman and Executive Director of the Company, and also the son of Madam Li Wai Hang, Christina, Executive Director of the Company, both of whom are controlling shareholders of the Company (as defined in the Listing Rules).
